Here, I’m re-posting my fire-dance-conspiratrice Jasmine Roses’s words… absolute gold, in my opinion!
Jasmine Rose:
“So this isn’t my usual kind of post, but I recently got curious about why my nervous system feels soooo regulated after our Women’s Ritual Fire Dances.”
“Like literally –it is the #1 reset for my nervous system. It sets me up for days, and creates a new baseline. I find myself looking forward to it every month!”
“It occurred to me that there are many (scientifically proven) reasons why this is the case…basically, these events are not just a raucous gathering of witchy women letting loose (though they are that, too
!).”
“They are a recipe for a HUMMING nervous system.”
“Here’s why:
Co-regulation –the social nervous system is now a very well understood phenomena –social connectedness supports us to feel safe and at ease. These events emphasise connection and attract awesome women who come regularly, fostering a real sense of community.
Singing! Yes, we always sing a song as part of our opening ritual before the dance. Happy vagus nerve = happy nervous system.
Grounding – our d-floor is a g-floor!! Dancing barefoot on the grass is incredibly grounding. We are surrounded by trees, dancing under the stars and moons which reminds us of our belonging and interconnection with all of life.
Crackling fire – such a deep, ancestral knowing is sparked when we sit beside a fire. There is nothing more soothing than the sound, warmth and sight of a steady burning fire. It doesn’t surprise me that the sound of a crackling fire is actually proven to reduce blood pressure and therefore help us to relax!
Warm, nourishing company and food – we cook organic, using Ayurvedic principles to assist easy digestion and satisfied taste buds and bellies. The kitcharee is always a fave and everyone goes home feeling nourished on every level!
Honouring the dusk transition. We always schedule our fire dances according to season, so that we are dancing as day comes night. Natural light exposure at dusk is very good for us as it tells our brain that night is coming, stimulating good hormones and helping us to sleep better. On a more magickal level, this is a time when the veils are thin and enchantment peaks!
Moving the body –the best medicine I know of! We craft a musical journey that eases us into the body, with plenty of tracks to shake loose, and then a gentle “come down” back to stillness. Everyone is free to move as she pleases, and encouraged to trust her instinctual body which is essential for the nervous system to find balance.”
“There you have it! In case you needed another reason to consider joining one of our fire dances, you now have many more!”
“No wonder our nervous systems are HUMMING after these events, with all of those good hormones coursing through our system.”
“Not to mention a deep ancient knowing rekindled, and our spirits ignited.”
“The ritual elements are a big part of the magick too!!”

I couldn’t have put it better myself. It makes total sense of why we feel the way we do, after a dance, with all that oxytocin and dopamine coursing around our systems!
It really is heart-warming medicine for bones, body and soul.
