“Remembering is a form of meeting.
Forgetting is a form of freedom.”
(Kahlil Gibran)
I do not want to forget about you,
And so I can never be free of you.
I do not want to forget about us,
Therefore I can never be free of us.
Why do I forget about forgetting
And long to be with you, remembering?
Why can’t I face the open road ahead,
In faith that I am safe and loved and whole?
Because by leaving everything behind
I lose nothing, except these lovely chains.
